Errol Morris

Oscar-Winning filmmaker Errol Morris is best-known for his acclaimed and evocative feature films. He has directed over 1000 commercials, including iconic campaigns for: Apple, Levi’s, ESPN, Nike, Target, Citibank and Miller High Life. Morris has also directed short films for ESPN, The New York Times, the IBM Centennial, and the 2002 and 2007 Academy Awards.  In 2001, Morris won an Emmy for “Photobooth,” a commercial for PBS.

Morris’s feature films have won many awards, including an Oscar for The Fog of War, the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for A Brief History of Time, the Grand Jury Prize, Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for Standard Operating Procedure, and the Edgar from the Mystery Writers of America for The Thin Blue Line.

His documentaries have repeatedly appeared on many “ten best” lists and have been honored by the National Society of Film Critics as well as the National Board of Review. Roger Ebert called his first film, Gates of Heaven, “one of the ten best films of all time”.
Morris has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Guggenheim Fellowship and a MacArthur Fellowship, and in 2007, he was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also the author of two New York Times best sellers, and is a regular contributor to The New York Times opinion pages.

Recent works include: celebrated docu-drama series, Wormwood, which examines the 1953 death of scientist and CIA employee Frank Olson (released on Netflix in 2017), American Dharma, A portrait of controversial political strategist and former Donald Trump advisor, Steve Bannon (released in 2018) and My Psychedelic Love Story, an examination of the high priest of LSD Timothy Leary through the eyes of famed lover Joanna Harcourt-Smith (released on Showtime in 2020). All were produced by Moxie Pictures.

Morris currently resides in Cambridge, MA.
