Sean Durkin

Sean Durkin is a critically acclaimed writer, producer and director.

MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE which he wrote and directed, premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and he subsequently won Best Director. The film went on to screen as part of Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival and is distributed by Fox Searchlight. In 2013, Durkin directed the four-part miniseries SOUTHCLIFFE for Channel 4. The series was nominated for four BAFTA awards including “Best Miniseries” and won “Best Actor” for Sean Harris.

Sean’s second film, THE NEST, premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and is distributed by IFC Films. The film was nominated for six 2021 British Independent Film Awards including “Best British Independent Film”, “Best Director” and “Best Screenplay.” The film also received two nominations for “Best Actor” for Jude Law and “Best Actress” for Carrie Coon at the 30th annual IFP Gotham Awards. Sean also directed and produced the pilot episode for Annapurna Pictures and Amazon Studios’ limited series DEAD RINGERS starring Rachel Weisz in 2022. He went on to direct episode 102 and co-directed the finale episode 106. DEAD RINGERS premiered on Amazon Prime in April 2023 and received several nominations, including a 2023 Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited Series or Anthology Series” and a Golden Globe Nomination for Rachel Weisz.

Most recently, Sean wrote, directed and produced his latest feature THE IRON CLAW for House Productions and A24 Films. THE IRON CLAW was released theatrically in the US on December 22, 2023 to rave reviews. Additionally, Sean has produced and executive produced several other feature films, including AFTERSCHOOL, JAMES WHITE, CHRISTINE, and THE RENTAL.
