Ben Wheatley

A multi-award-winning independent filmmaker with a devoted cult following, Ben Wheatley has been making films of a remarkably singular vision at an intimidating pace since his breakthrough feature debut “Down Terrace” in 2009.

2011’s “Kill List” and 2012’s “Sightseers” both swept the boards awards at festivals worldwide with ecstatic reviews. His phantasmagorical English Civil War film, “A Field In England”, hit theatres in the UK in summer 2013. In addition, his film “High Rise”, starring Jeremy Irons and Tom Hiddleston premiered at the Tribeca film festival in 2015 to widespread critical acclaim. In 2016 the freewheeling shoot-out caper “Free Fire” starring Brie Larson and Cillian Murphy closed the BFI London Film Festival. This was followed in 2018 by “Happy New Year, Colin Burstead” and in 2020 by his adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s “Rebecca”  – starring Armie Hammer, Lily James and Kristen Scott-Thomas – for Netflix.

In addition to his genre-busting cinematic work, Ben has written and directed numerous TV comedies, including BBC3’s cult hit “Ideal”, “Shooting Stars”, “The Wrong Door” and “Modern Toss”.  He has also directed episodes of the beyond-cult British sci-fi series “Dr. Who” and “Strange Angel” for CBS.

Ben has directed commercials for an array of global brands clients including Premier Inn, Thomas Cook, T-Mobile, and Heineken.

His last feature project was the 2023 box-office smash “Meg 2 – The Trench” starring Jason Statham and a prehistoric giant Shark

Ben is currently in preproduction on “Generation Z” a Brexit-themed zombie-satire for Channel 4.
