Todd Haynes’ latest feature Dark Waters hits theaters in Los Angeles and New York this weekend, a legal thriller starring Mark Ruffalo based on a 2016 New York Magazine piece from Nathaniel Rich titled “The Lawyer Who Became DuPont’s Worst Nightmare.” The story follows Robert Bilott, played by Ruffalo, as he links unexplained deaths to DuPont and risks everything to bring the truth to light.
The film, which also stars Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins, and more, has already received great reviews, with Variety commenting that Todd’s direction “colors in the scenario with an underlying dimension of personalized obsession,” making the film unique among similar stories. In a New Yorker profile, Todd chimed in on creating in this space as well, saying “what I love so much about the genre is the cost of revealing the truth.”
There’s also been plenty of press on Todd’s career throughout the film’s cycle, including an interview with The Metrograph that dives into the details of different films throughout Todd’s career, providing insights on his style and growth through the years.
