Michael Cera and Sharon Van Etten release new song “Best I Can” from ‘Dina’

The score for Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini’s documentary Dina came from an unlikely source: Michael Cera. Best known for his roles in Arrested Development, Superbad, Juno, and most recently, Twin Peaks: The Return, Cera also released a new song in collaboration with Sharon Van Etten that will play in the movie’s credits, entitled “Best I Can.”

Recorded in a “hot basement with a Roland Jupiter 4 synthesizer and drum machine,” Cera originally recorded the song for a different spot in the movie that now holds Yaz’s hit “Only You.” When the rights to “Only You” came through, Dan and Antonio opted to move “Best I Can” to the credits sequence, and to direct an accompanying music video for the song.

Dina follows the love story of the title character and her fiancé Scott, an autistic couple in suburban Philadelphia. The authentic love story premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January, where it received the Grand Jury prize. It will be released in select theaters on October 6th.
