The Moxie-produced documentary, directed by Errol Morris, made its world premiere last week at the Telluride Film Festival with a screening of all six installments. Clocking in at 258 minutes, the documentary releases to the public on Netflix on December 15th, and according to early critics, there’s much to look forward to.
The Hollywood Reporter lauds the film as a “staggering, sometimes daunting work… For conspiracy theorists, Cold War buffs, murder mystery fans and anti-government agitators of all persuasions, this is red meat, pure heroin, a Philip K. Dick wet dream.”
In a review for The Guardian, Xan Brooks calls the film a “splendidly clammy, mysterious docu-drama,” while Eric Kohn of IndieWire notes that it is Morris “most ambitious work to date.” He goes on to write, “‘Wormwood’ manages to channel the most poignant themes at the root of Morris’ work. It’s a ruminative look at an unsolvable crime that nevertheless manages to solve one piece of the puzzle.”
Wormwood stars Peter Sarsgaard, Molly Parker, Tim Blake Nelson, and Jimmi Simpson. The six-part series premieres on Netflix on December 15th.
