In 2006 Moxie Pictures produced James Griffiths’ short film “The One and Only Herb McGwyer Plays Wallis Island” that he co-wrote with writer-performers Tim Key and Tom Basden.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and won Best British Short Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, along with Best Direction at the Creativity No Spot Festival in NYC, and was nominated for Best Short Film by BAFTA in 2007.
In the wake of this early success James’ career flourished, directing films for global brands such as Adidas, Barclays, Strongbow and Virgin Media.
In the world of TV comedy James has found tremendous success, as writer, director and increasingly show runner. He directed “Episodes” – a co-production for Showtime & the BBC starring Matt Le Blanc, Steven Mangan and Tamsin Greig. In 2011, James directed the pilot of NBC’s “Up All Night”, produced by Lorne Michaels, and starring Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph. He’s also directed the pilots and several episodes of hit shows such as “Black-ish”, “Wrecked” and “Cooper Barrett’s Guide To Surviving Life”
James’ first feature film “Cuban Fury”, a warm-hearted romantic comedy about the high stakes world of competitive salsa dancing, stars Nick Frost, Rashida Jones and Chris O’Dowd, and was released in 2014.
